Atlanta’s historic Westside holds a rich cultural legacy — from its pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement to its unparalleled concentration of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. It has nurtured leaders who shaped our city and nation — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mayor Maynard Jackson Jr., Ambassador Andrew Young, Dorothy Bolden, and many more.
But decades of systemic disinvestment and economic injustice left these neighborhoods — once home to more than 58,000 residents — with declining populations, blighted properties, and limited access to opportunity.
Today, residents, civic leaders, and public‑ and private‑sector partners are reversing that trend. In 2014, Westside Future Fund was created to bring these efforts together — ensuring revitalization benefits those who built the historic Westside and call it home.
